Pool looking to end tough run of results

Welshpool, still smarting after ‘pulling defeat out of the jaws of victory’ at arch rivals Newtown last weekend, will be looking for that all important win as they entertain Nant Conwy 2nds looking to end a poor run of results, writes Gary Williams.

The Maesydre men, level on points and equal third with Newtown and Abergele, have a couple of home games on the bounce and know that maximum points are needed to maintain their challenge for the top.

Head coach, Daley Jones, said: “We’ve had a good chat with the players this week and told them to forget about last week’s result and concentrate on what we’ve got coming up.

“We know that Teirw Nant will be formidable opponents but these are games which, if playing at our best, we think we should be winning.

“We need to get back on track and this is an ideal opportunity.”

Newtown, whose never-say-die attitude gave them victory last weekend, face another massive challenge as they head north to league leaders Denbigh.

Earlier this season, Newtown ran the league leaders close, going down 21-24 at The Rec and they will be hoping to gain revenge and continue their impressive recent run of results.

In Division One, COBRA, having lost their last five league games, will need to make home advantage count in their clash with Caernarfon who sit fourth in the league.

The form book suggests a win for the visitors but playing at home might make the difference for the Meifod men, who need to gain points of any kind in what has the makings of a very close game.

Llanidloes, hosting high-flying Ruthin 2nds in Division Three North East, may also have to rely on home advantage as a leveller. At full strength, Llani are a match for anybody in this division and it won't be a surprise if the hosts nick the points at the end of a tight affair.

Unfortunately, Flint are unable to field a side against Machynlleth.
