Pool confident after snapping losing run

After last week’s morale-boosting away win at Bro Ffestiniog, Welshpool will be looking to take more points as they host Abergele in the WRU North Wales Division Two, writes Gary Williams.

The victory snapped a losing streak that started back in November and Pool know that victory over the mid-table side could elevate them back to joint second in the table.

Head Coach, Daley Jones, said: “It was fantastic to get a win at ‘Bro’ last week after a run of close defeats and we now need to push for every point as we approach the business end of the season.

“We have a run of home games in the next few weeks and we need to make this advantage count. If all goes to plan, we could be in a good position by the time we have a break for the Six Nations.”

Neighbours Newtown, enjoying a great run, can put more pressure on the front runners if they get a win on the road at Shotton. However, the Steelmen, at full strength, can be formidable and if the visitors come away with a win, it will definitely send warning signals to those just above them in the league standings.

In Division One, COBRA visit fellow strugglers Bala and know that they need to pick up points of some sort to start a climb up the ladder and out of the relegation battle.

Last week, the Meifod men gave unbeaten leaders Nant Conwy a tough battle, falling away late in the game. They will need to give 100% effort to pick up the points in what is virtually a derby game.

COBRA 2nds welcome Mold 2nds in Division Three North East and with just a few points separating them in the table, this has the makings of a tense affair. Home advantage could play a significant part in the result.

Llanidloes face Bala 2nds and will expect to get a win which could move them up a place in the table. With quite a few games in hand on teams just above them, a run of wins could result in a rapid climb and I'm expecting a convincing result for the boys from Cae Hafren.

Unfortunately, Rhos have called off against unbeaten league leaders Machynlleth.

COBRA Youth have a friendly home against Wrexham.

On Sunday, COBRA Ladies resume their Premiership fixtures with a visit from Whitland. COBRA, who haven't played a league fixture since November, will be itching to get on the field and Whitland, just a place below them in the league, could provide the ideal opposition for a competitive game as both clubs attempt to kick start their campaigns.
