Dragon close the gap on leaders

The Green Dragon A have closed the gap on the leaders Grapes A after Friday night’s action in the Welshpool and District Darts League Sponsored by The New Saints FC, writes Steve Lloyd.

That’s because the Kings Head sent a shock wave through the first division with a 4-3 win over the leaders.

Darren Hyland spoilt the only 100% record in the first division with an excellent win over Jamie Cater. Kacey Jones was the other Kings singles winner before they won both doubles. Ben Davies, Jordan Harding and Keith Gamble won for the Grapes A.

The defeat allowed the ‘Dragon’ to move within two points of the Grapes A, and level on points with the Horse & Jockey who they beat on the road, 5-2.

Leigh Marston took the only singles match for the Horse & Jockey while Steve Price, Mitch Butler, Robin Shingler and Rhys Butler won for the Dragon A with the doubles shared.

A mention for a fantastic 13-dart leg from Price and youngster (Rhys) Butler in their doubles match.

Green Dragon B beat Grapes B, 5-2, at home with the in-form Chris White and captain Gareth Isaac winning singles for the Grapes B, while Phil Jones, Cameron Williams and captain Gareth Richards won for the Dragon B who also took both doubles. Craig Edgar finished a leg with a 105-checkout for the Dragon B.

The second division also threw up a surprise result with the Red Lion Llanfair dropping points at home to the inform Punchbowl, 3-4. Tom Evans, Clive Jones and Gwyn Evans winning for the home team, while Brian Jones (19-dart finish) and Garry Lewis were on the mark for the Punch who also secured both doubles.

The Westwood moved back into top spot with a 6-1 win at Castle who had Paul Roberts as their solitary winner on the night. John Gibb, Alan James, Martyn Whitby and Duncan Cork won for the Westwood, who also bagged the doubles matches.

Green Dragon A lost out by the odd game to the Oak Guilsfield. Dave Knight and Gethin Stephens won for the Dragon C while Hywel Lloyd, Ewan Walsh and Mike Walsh won for the Oak with the doubles shared.
