Charlie Kinsey smashed a marvellous century as Welshpool returned to winning ways at Bridgnorth II in Shropshire Division Three.
Kinsey’s 111 ensured Welshpool hunted down their host’s total of 242-7 in the 42nd over for a three-wicket win. Paul Chapman (35) and Sean Roberts (31) provided solid support.
Guilsfield & Llandrinio’s new signings announced themselves in style as the villagers cruised to their first victory of the season over Willey, also in Division Three.
All-rounder Billy West took 4-33 on his home debut, while left arm spinner Ben Peel grabbed 3-33 on his club debut to see off the visitors for 149.
Another new signing for the season, Adam Knight (54), then made his maiden half century for the club, and linked up with Rhodri Parfitt (39no) to guide the villagers to a six-wicket victory. Matt Knight added 23 on his home debut.
A strong fightback by David Laird wasn’t enough to prevent Newtown suffering a Shropshire Premier League defeat at home to Madeley.
After deciding to bat, only Marco Malan (24) and Rom Foulkes (23) made any decent progress with the Newtown innings ending on just 138.
Laird then took 5-34 in a plucky reply, but the visitors made it home in the 42nd over with three wickets to spare.
Montgomery returned from Shelton II with a Division Two defeat after being set 250-6 to chase. Aaron Ruff-Cock made 71 to lead the reply, but it finished well short on 171 in the 33rd over.
Llanidloes are up to second in Division Four following a 59-run win over Priorslee.
Batting first, the top order was in fine nick with Will Denham (57), Dan Lewis (56) and Andrew Jones (47) all amongst the runs on their way to posting 219-8.
All-rounder Adrian Foulkes then span his way to 5-45 as Priorslee were dismissed for 160.
Newtown II suffered defeat at the hands of Newport II who posted a first innings total of 204. Evan Smout (53) and Craig Davies (49) spearheaded the run-chase, but it ended short on 186-7.
There were excellent wins for both Montgomery II and Welshpool II in Division Six.
Lance Parkes (75no) and Patrick Davies (55no) led Welshpool II’s charge to victory after visiting Coton Hall set a healthy target of 175-7.
Montgomery II picked up their first win at home to Calverhall thanks to some excellent performance by bat and ball.
Skipper Tom Corfield smashed 96 as Monty reached 200 all out. Jac Yewdall was unbeaten on 37.
Corfield then took 3-11 and teenage spinner Prys Morris took 3-3 (pictured by Phil Blagg) to bowl the visitors out for just 70.
Guilsfield & Llandrinio II’s run chase in Division Seven fell short after Quatt III posted 167-9.
Alex Parry top scored with 45, but it was in vain with the response ending on 144.
Newly formed Newtown III went to the top of the early table in Sunday Division Three with a comfortable victory over Bridgnorth III who were bowled out for 97. Lucas Lane took 4-26 and went on to finish unbeaten on 36 to secure the win.
In the same division, another newly formed club, Llanidloes II, saw their 207-8 first innings caught by Oswestry IV. Callum Jones (47) and Will Denham (40) top scored.
In a nailbiting reply, Ryan Jones took 4-46 to keep things interesting but the visitors left with the spoils thanks to a tremendous last-wicket partnership.
