Montgomery bounced back to form with a mighty 158-run victory over Lilleshall to move into mid-table in Shropshire Division Two.
After being put into bat, Andrew Barker smashed a marvellous 114, with Ieuan Griffiths hitting 75 in 50 balls and Aaron Ruff-Cock adding 48 in just 21 balls as Monty amassed a whopping 319-6 from 45 overs.
Alex Bromley (3-14) and Ed Bennett (3-55) then did their bit to ensure Lilleshall were never in the chase, eventually bring dismissed for 161.
Newtown’s winning run came to a shuddering halt with a 146-run defeat at Allscott Heath in the Shropshire Premier Division.
After putting their hosts in to bat, Newtown bowled well as Allscott Heath set a reachable 222-9 from their 50 overs.
But Newtown crumbled in reply, reaching just 76 before the final wicket fell in the 24th over.
In Division Three, Charlie Kinsey smashed 74 as Welshpool moved up the table with a 32-run victory over Sentinel II.
Sam Cadwallader (41) and Paul Chapman (32) were also in the runs as Welshpool posted 219-5, allowing Rob Anderson to take centre stage with 5-23 to ensure the visitors finished short on 189-8.
Guilsfield & Llandrinio continued their inconsistent form with a disappointing defeat at Church Stretton who set a target of 223-5 off 35 overs. Gary Meredith took 3-46 and Dave Jones took 2-36.
Wickets tumbled regularly in reply with only Rhodri Parfitt (30), Jones (27) and Lewis Todd (24 not out) the main run-makers as the villagers finished all out for 160.
There were bizarre scenes at Llanidloes where their Division Four match against Cound ended in controversy. With the Llanidloes target of 162 all out seemingly out of reach for Cound II, who were on 125-7 with five overs to go, the umpires called time due to the clock ticking past 7.30pm, the time allocated as an end of play by league rules.
But there was better news for Newtown II after recording a comfortable three-wicket win over Bomere Heath II who were bowled out for just 84. Reino de Klerk (3-18) and Finley Bellamore (3-3) inflicted the most damage.
Newtown’s reply wasn’t straightforward, but opener Callum Foulkes made 32 to ensure they made it home with seven wickets lost.
Welshpool II kept the pressure on the Division Six promotion chasers with victory at Forton II by seven wickets, after restricting their visitors to 162-7. Dan Chodecki then took the game by the scruff with 84, and Pat Davies made 34 to secure a Pool win.
Despite some impressive performances by Leighton Blagg (5-43) and Elwyn Turner (61), Montgomery II fell short in their run chase at St George’s III who made 211 all out. Monty ended on 165-4.
Guilsfield & Llandrinio II almost pulled off a mighty win, and what would have been their sixth in a row, but fell agonisingly short against Albrighton II at the LHG Oval in Division Seven.
The visitors batted well to compile 226-5, with young George Edwards taking 2-12.
And it was Rupert Shingler who once again who led the Guils counter-attack, smashing a healthy 63 with support from Rich Lewis (23) and Dave Court (20). But the tail collapsed and they finished all out, just 14 runs short.
On Sunday, imperious Newtown III remain top and unbeaten after a 72-run win over Frankton III.
Riley Bellamore (67no), Barry Bellis (53), and Rhys Jones (45) were all in form as Newtown posted 239, too much for the hosts who were restricted to 169-9. Jones completed a fine match with 5-20.
Llanidloes II fell to a defeat at home to Allscott Heath III who set a target of 216-6. Llanidloes finished on 137-7 with Harry Jones (28no) top scoring.
