Gareth ‘Tank’ Ashley (right) made his move for the Welshpool Premier Summer Darts League top spot with three unbeaten games on Friday, collecting five points in the process.
A 4-0 win over Rob Shingler and a 4-2 victory over Mitch Butler put him in good spirits for the night. With the game of the season next served up by Ashley and Kacey Jones in a 3-3 draw as both players averaged above 90 (Jones 92.70, and Ashley 90.40).
Jones also claimed a win over Rhys Butler 4-1 on the night with Rhys throwing the highest check-out of the night with a 130. Rhys then managed to claim a draw against Welshpool's Haydn Jones who also fell to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Mitch Butler.
Neil Astley carried on his winning run with a 4-2 victory over top 8 hopeful Dave Rix who also drew with last year’s champion, Gary Jones, 3-3.
Jamie Kynaston claimed a big win on the night over Jones, 4-1. Ewan Jones went top of the league with a win over Jamie Cater and a draw against Dan Hosiene. The Postman did however grab himself a 4-0 over Cater to keep his place in the top 8 going into the last couple of weeks.
The league has a week off with players competing In the UKDA National finals weekend.
Steve & Ewan and Mitch & Rhys qualified for the pairs on Friday evening, with Gareth Ashley, Steve Price, Kacey Jones, Jamie Kynaston and Ewan Jones all qualifying for the singles on Sunday.
Rhys Butler (pictured) is also heading to South Wales on Sunday to defend his Welsh Youth Masters title.
