As quick as ever!

Welshpool swimmer Dan Jones will be growing his finger nails over the winter to try and make up the fractions of a second that will secure his spot in the Team Wales Commonwealth Games squad.

Dan has been one of the best swimmers in Wales over the past decade or so, and at an age when most would be hanging up their trunks, the 28-year-old seems more motivated than ever.

He secured two golds and a bronze at the Welsh Winter Championships in Swansea just before Christmas, and declared afterwards that he is determined to be a part of Team Wales for next summer’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

“I am super happy to be 0.01 off my 200m freestyle Personal Best, and then to match my 50m freestyle Personal Best from four years ago this early in the season was something else,” he said. “Finally, the 100m freestyle was faster than anything I swam last season.”

“Also, to be under 0.2 of a second away from two Commonwealth Games nomination times now is really motivating!”

The multiple Welsh title winner has until next May to try and make the individual qualifying times for Glasgow, but is already in a strong position to make the relay teams.

He will be travelling with Swim Wales to Luxembourg to compete at the end of January, before building up to the Welsh Nationals in Swansea at the beginning of April, followed by the British Championships in London which will be his final opportunity to post times before Team Wales select their squad for Glasgow.
