The Welshpool & District Darts League is back underway after the Christmas break, and while we saw some top-notch action, one of the league’s stars hit a nine-darter in a game across the border (more on that at the end of the report), writes Steve Lloyd.

Division 1 saw Kings Head A rise to the top of the table following a dominant performance, while Division 2’s Powis Arms A maintained their lead. In Division 3, The Breidden held onto their top spot despite a close match.

In Division 1, Kings Head A delivered a commanding 7-0 victory over The Oak, which propelled them from second to top in the standings after the leaders, Compass, had their match against Westwood A postponed.

Owl & Pussycat also impressed with a 6-1 win against Red Lion, moving them up two positions to fourth. Meanwhile, Westwood B’s 7-0 triumph over Punchbowl saw them climb three spots to fifth.

Pheasant managed a narrow 4-3 victory over Green Dragon A, maintaining their third-place position. Westwood Aremain in sixth.

In Division 2, Powis Arms retained their top position with a 5-2 win over Grapes B. Simon Richards and Keith Scott each secured two wins for Powis Arms, while Sean ‘Pep’ Jones and Duncan Cork claimed victories for Grapes B.

Black Lion moved up to second place after defeating Kings Head B 5-2, overtaking Angel A, whose match was postponed.

Castle narrowly defeated Green Dragon C 4-3, with Shaun Hindmarch contributing two wins for Castle. Red Lion Misfits edged past Grapes A 4-3, climbing one position to seventh. The match between The Angel and The Lion Caerhowel was postponed, leaving their standings unchanged.

In Division 3, The Breidden maintained their lead with a close 4-3 win over Angel B, who remain in second place.

Grapes C moved up three positions to third after a convincing 6-1 victory over Talbot. Horseshoe Arddleen’s 5-2 win against Powis Arms B saw them rise to fourth. Owl & Pussycat B secured a 4-3 victory over Grapes D, moving up one position to sixth.

The match between Castle B and Compass B was postponed, resulting in Compass B dropping to seventh due to other results. Talbot and Castle B remain in ninth and 10th respectively.

Meanwhile, Welshpool darts player Kacey Jones secured a 9-dart 501 in his Shropshire county game whilst playing for the Salopians at the weekend. We go 80 years without one, then two come along within 12 months.

Here is wishing both Gareth Ashley (Pheasant), who hit the first 9-darter last year, and Kacey, who plays for the Kings Head A, all the best for the future as these guys really put our league on the map.
