Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.


OTMS (28)

Otm cows topped at £1192.80 (140ppkg) for a 852kg Angus from Partneriaeth R E Jones, Maesllymysten. Price & Price, Cwm Earl, presented a Limousin otm weighing 723kg making £1135.11 (157ppkg). Heifers under 48 months topped ta £1426.62 (186ppkg) for a 767kg Limousin from EH Pennie & Son, Gwern-y-Ychain. A 36 months old  British blue heifer from Probert & Probert, Lower Hill, weighed 575kg making £833.75 (145ppkg).

Otm Cows (x20) averaged 108.80ppkg / £679.66.

Heifers under 48 months (x7) averaged 133.72ppkg / £806.

Cows 48 – 72 months (x4) averaged 123.60ppkg / £678.28.

Overall average of 114.89ppkg – MORE CATTLE WANTED TO MEET DEMAND.

An entry of 2489 prime hoggs sold to an average of  185.54ppkg.

Lights (98) to 185ppkg from J Balmer, Tycanol. Others to 180ppkg from G & TD Jones, Y Gadair. Average of 168.97ppkg.

Standards (222) to 198ppkg from JES Corfield, Woodgate. Others to 196ppkg from Evan Davies & Co, Red House. Average of 177.57ppkg.

Mediums (780) to  230ppkg from M C Davies, Lower Brynelen. Others to 228ppkg from A S Hopley, Kingsleigh. Average of 188.85ppkg

Heavies (613) to 216ppkg from JR& RM & JP Andrew, Bronheulog. Others to 214ppkg from Evan Davies & Co, red House. Average of  183.61ppkg.  

Over Weights (559) to 204ppkg from MPB Ashton & Son, Belan Ddu . Others to 199ppkg from JES Corfield, Woodgate.  Average of 153.45ppkg.

 

PRIME LAMBS (1135)

An entry of 1135 Prime Lambs sold to an average of 224.81ppkg.

Lights (21) to 252ppkg from P M Lewis, Dwylan. Others to 246ppkg from W Davies, Brynglas. Average of 246.34ppkg.

Standards (333) to 291ppkg  from A E Casewell, Bodynfoel. Others to 259ppkg from D Gethin, Llanyhared. Average of 229.87ppkg.

Mediums (738) to 278ppkg from MG & MN Hanselman, Knapps Farm. Others to 263ppkg from MM & R Morris, Maestanyglwyden. Average of 222.22ppkg.

Heavies (43) to 229ppkg from JA Wood & Sons, Kinnerton Farm. Others to 223ppkg from HG Ellis & Co, Tynywern. Average of 204.10ppkg.

 

CULL SHEEP (2042)

A good show of cull ewes this week selling to averages of £53 for ewes and £83 for rams. Topping the ewe section at £130 was a single ewe from TWG & N Davies, Pengraig. N Oughton, Lymore, presented 6 ewes making £118.  Two rams from G I Francis & Co, The Bryn, made £128. J C Evans & Co, Belannewydd, presented two rams making £127.

 

COUPLES

Another good entry of 507 ewes with lambs at foot which included 179 hoggs sold to another very good trade. £200 was reached twice – first for 4 pedigree Charollais yearlings with 6 pure bred Charollais lambs at foot from Mr Mills, Blaenhirbant, and second from BJ & MY Davies, Gorse Farm, for 4 Texel x hoggs with single Beltex lambs.

Other aged ewes £172 twice from ERG Huxley, Rhosydd Gwynnion, for 8 Texel x 2 year old with 16 lambs and again for 10 texel x 5year olds with twins, the same home sold Texel x 3 year olds withsingle lambs for £141 and £145 for a single texel yearling with a single texel lamb. 40 ewes with 58 lambs sold to an average of £58/life.

Hoggs hit £195 for 10 Texel x with single Beltex lambs from E W Howells, Oakwood. Coloured mules from N Samuel, Lower Ystrad, hit £188 and £185. Others from J V Davies & Co, Garth Fawr, made £185, £178 and £175. The 179 hoggs sold to an average of £168 per couple.

Newt Monday – catalogued sale of 750 couples, sale to commence at 11am prompt. Catalogues available from the market office.

 

COWS & CALVES

An entry of 25 cows and calves this week topping at £2480 for a Limousin x 2nd calver with her Limousin bull calf from D P Evans, Moel Y Garth, also from the same home was a Limousin x 2nd calver with her Limousin heifer calf making £2020. Next at £2320 was a British blue x 1st calver with her Limousin x heifer calf from R H Roberts, Rolly Farm. Also from J H Roberts were 2 more similar outfits making £1980 and £2000 respectively.

A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2000 + 4lots, £1800 - £2000 1 lot, £1600 - £1800 3 lots, £1400- £1600 5 lots, £1200 - £1400 7 lots, £1000 - £1200 5 lots.

 

DAIRY COWS

6 dairy cows forward this week topping at £1800 for a heifer sired by ‘woodmarsh maestro’ from E Probert & Sons, Coven Hope Farm, another heifer from the same place made £1610. AR Jones & Son, Plas Issa, presented a British Friesian 2nd calver making £1580.
