A leading Shropshire auction house is aiming to build on the success of its May sporting and wildlife auction when a collection of original paintings commissioned by British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) sold for nearly £14,000.

Halls | The Auction House is now accepting consignments for its next sporting and wildlife auction on November 4, with entries closing on October 2.

Paintings, prints, ceramics, silver, jewellery, taxidermy, air rifles, antique fishing gear and other items with a sporting, hunting or wildlife theme are welcomed. Items of field sports, horse racing, golfing and rugby interest, including accessories, are also on the wanted list.

Chloe Delpy-Harding, junior general valuer, cataloguer and auctioneer at Halls | The Auction House, believes there could also be renewed interest in FIFA World Cup memorabilia, following the current finals in USA and Mexico.

“The BASC artworks collection attracted a lot of interest in May and we would be delighted to sell other sporting and wildlife collections in our next sale,” she said. “We are focused on continuing to grow our sporting and wildlife sales by offering a service to vendors and buyers.”

The BASC collection featured 120 different artworks from various artists who collaborated with the organisation over the years to raise funds towards conservation projects.

The BASC Wildlife Fund artworks included first day cover stamps and concept sketches. Top seller was ‘Pintail on the Dee, a Skein in a Cloudy Sky, with sun beams breaking through’ (pictured), by Irish artist Alastair Proud (b.1954) in 2016 which sold for £650.

The May auction’s top price of £1,250 was paid for a Victorian taxidermy display of exotic birds in a diorama under a glass dome from a late Cheshire collector’s estate, while a Daystate Royale limited edition .22 calibre PCP air rifle, made to mark a 35-year alliance with The Airgun Centre in Essex, sold for £1,200.

Hunting and horse racing paintings and bronze sculptures sold for up to £480.
