Villagers want to take coat of arms back home

Residents in Forden want to save the village’s coat of arms.

The coat of arms has been restored by The Powysland Club at Welshpool after being discovered in the town’s former library.

Originally based at St Michael’s Church in Forden the heraldic design was removed from the church during its restoration and never returned.

The Powysland Club offered the coat of arms to Welshpool Town Council for display in the Town Hall but the offer was turned down.

Councillor Graham Breeze said: “As a Forden boy born and bred I would like to see this returned to its rightful place in the village.

“I would be amazed if the people of Forden would not be horrified to think this piece of the village’s history might be lost for ever.”

Now Parochial  Church Councillors have confirmed they are working to re-house the crest in the church.

Delyth Jones said: “We have been to see the coat of arms and really want to see it back in the church at Forden.

“It is on the agenda for our April meeting and we will have to seek the Bishop’s permission before we can return it to its proper place in the village church.”
