Holding a churchyard bioblitz

12/06/2025 @ 09:22

Nature lovers are invited to a local church this Sunday to take part in an event to record the wildlife living in its churchyard and the surrounding area.

For the second year, the Buttington Bioblitz, held at All Saints Church Buttington, is hoping to capture as many records as possible for the birds, bugs and blooms living in the churchyard and the nearby cemetery.

“We want to play our part to halt biodiversity loss and create spaces for wildlife,” said Eley Hart, church treasurer and event organiser. “It’s vital that we know if our efforts are working and being able to compare wildlife records year on year is a good way to do that.”

The congregation are inviting people of all ages from the local community to join them on Sunday between noon and 4pm.

Local experts will be on hand to help with identification and children will have the chance to make an apple bird feeder and follow a nature trail around the churchyard.
