A group of Meifod Artists are literally “opening their studio doors” to the public for the inaugural Meifod Open Studio Event this Saturday (June 13).
Following an original idea by artist Liz Jones, nine local artists will display their work in several locations around the village this Saturday from 10am-4pm.
Liz will be joined by Hilary Jones, Autumn Ryder, John Pearson-Phillips, Maria Zervas, Josie Davies, Catrin Williams, Helen Cooksley and Christine Gray.
The artists will open their studio doors as well as various gazebos around the village to encourage people to walk between the displays.
Work will be available to purchase and there will be a goody bag for the winner of a draw for those who visit at least five of the venues.
The event will help showcase the village’s diversity in art, which has a rich history in the creative arts, once housing a gallery in the middle of the village.
Maps are available at Meifod Post Office and also an E-version is at www.LizJones.org.
“Come and say hello,” said Liz. “See what we do as artists and have a chat.
“There has been a lot of local interest already and we have had to restock the availability of the maps.”
Fellow artist, John Pearson-Phillips, added: “I am very fortunate to be closely associated with a group of local artists to share ideas and exhibitions. Living in Meifod affords me the opportunity to paint the landscapes, which I enjoy, but at the same time try and capture individuals through drawing and painting.”
The event has already secured sponsorship via Coco Independent Coffee House (Welshpool) and Cyfie Farm. The sponsorship is also helping to fund a Gallery Exhibition in November which will be held at the Village Hall.
