More than 44,000 potholes have been repaired or prevented on around 90 miles of roads across Mid Wales in the past six months as part of the Welsh Government’s “Fixing our Roads” programme.

This includes large sections of roads near Welshpool, according to the Welsh Government.

The initiative, launched in April, is a collaboration between the Welsh Government and local councils aimed at tackling long-standing problems on local and strategic road networks.

In Mid Wales, key routes including the A483 Welshpool and Newtown bypasses and the A470 at Caersws have benefited from the investment.

Across Wales, councils have repaired or prevented around 107,000 potholes on 216 miles of local roads. A further 24,000 potholes have been dealt with on more than 50 miles of the Strategic Road Network thanks to Welsh Government funding.

Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, said the progress so far showed the government’s commitment to improving road conditions for communities across the country.

“Fixing our roads is a priority for this government,” he said. “We are only six months into this programme, but I am delighted with the fantastic progress that’s been made so far, and there’s a lot more to come.

“We are now seeing the results of the additional £25 million investment in our main roads, and the support for our local authorities to fix local roads.

“This work is already making a real difference to communities across Wales, addressing long-standing issues now, to make our roads more resilient for the future.”
