The newly established u3a Welshpool Matters research group has launched a community tool appeal to support a new open gardening project and other local good causes.
Unwanted gardening equipment and other useful tools can be donated via Welshpool Hardware and DIY shop, who have kindly agreed to support the project.
You can donate your tools and equipment by dropping them off during business hours (Monday-Saturday, 9pm-5pm) at 1, Seven Stars Road, Welshpool, SY21 7JE.
They must NOT be left outside out-of-hours and anyone who donates is entered into a free prize draw to have the chance to win a magnificent Ferrero Rocher limited-edition pyramid donated by one of the group’s supporters. Tickets will also be allocated to the Welshpool Repair Café volunteers who stop broken tools and other useful items from being thrown away.
All tools donated will be sorted and checked/repaired for safety.
Welshpool Matters Group Leader, Thomas Memery, said: “By gathering information and sharing our day-to-day interactions and experiences of living and working here, we will help more people to celebrate the positive aspects of Welshpool in new and interesting ways.
“Our hard-working independent shopkeepers, small business owners, and voluntary and faith groups do more than many to serve local people and make visitors to Welshpool feel welcome.
“Initiatives like the Foodbank, the Give n’Take fruit and vegetable share, the Town Hall Hub, the Methodist Church Friendship lunches, the Community Fridge, Welshpool Repair Café, and so many similar good ideas in action demonstrate that the situation for all of us gets better when we work together.”
Thomas went on to thank Pauline Holt and her Severn Community Connections committee and volunteers, enthusiastic u3a members and the “inspirational locals” who have already supported the new Welshpool Matters group.
You can also donate tools at the next Welshpool Repair Café scheduled for Saturday, February 28, from 10.15am-12.45pm The Corn Exchange, Welshpool.
The Welshpool Matters group will next meet at The Old Railway Station (pictured) at 2pm on Tuesday, February 17.
Welshpool and District u3a members are always interested in establishing links with and promoting faith and voluntary sector groups and local businesses serving our community.
