Welshpool Town Council has celebrated some “exceptional contributions of individuals” at its annual Community Awards.

Set up in 2008, the Awards celebrate residents whose dedication, compassion and voluntary efforts have made a meaningful difference to life in the town.

This year’s recipients stand for a diverse range of community service, from long-standing volunteering to acts of quiet generosity and leadership.

2026 Community Award Recipients

Margaret Pepper

Margaret Pepper has received an award for more than 25 years of outstanding service to the Welshpool community. Through her work with Welshpool Meals on Wheels, she has provided vital support to elderly and vulnerable residents, as well as companionship that helps reduce isolation. She has also given 18 years of dedicated service to the Talking Newspaper, supporting visually impaired residents.

Margaret has also been a driving force behind fundraising initiatives in the town, supporting charities including Wales Air Ambulance, Hope House Children’s Hospice, Parkinson’s UK, and international causes such as Mary’s Meals and the Ukrainian Disaster Fund. Her tireless efforts, both locally and globally, exemplify the very spirit of community service.

David Corfield

David Corfield, a true local hero whose quiet, self-funded efforts have made Welshpool a better place for so many years. Regularly seen litter picking, maintaining verges, repairing public benches, and even clearing snow with his own equipment, David’s contributions are both practical and impactful.

Beyond this, David has played a leading role in community life, including over 30 years supporting the Welshpool Country and Western Festival and over 20 years as Chairman of the Heulwen Trust. His dedication, humility and direct approach embody the best of community spirit.

Corey Eadasson

Corey Eadasson was honoured for his remarkable generosity and dedication to supporting those in need. Over recent years, Corey and his team have provided hundreds of free meals to schoolchildren during holidays, as well as Christmas dinners for those in need and food for homeless residents.

He has also supported local youth initiatives, including providing food for over one hundred young people at The Feathers Youth Club, and continues to assist local sport through matchday catering. His commitment to helping others has had a significant and lasting impact across the community.

Phillip Jones

Phillip Jones received an award for his outstanding efforts over the past three years in bringing people together to raise awareness of, and funds for, Parkinson’s disease. His work has helped strengthen community connections while promoting a compelling cause.

Highly Commended

Pat Jones

Pat Jones received a Highly Commended certificate in recognition of a lifetime of service to the Welshpool community. She has made a lasting contribution through her work in education, the Guiding movement, and her continued involvement with Welshpool Methodist Church.

For the past 16 years, she has played a key role in the Welshpool and District Visually Impaired Club, organising activities, supporting members, and helping the club continue to flourish. Her dedication and compassion have enriched the lives of many people in the town.

The awards highlight the remarkable efforts of individuals who often work quietly behind the scenes, but whose contributions make Welshpool a stronger, more supportive, and more connected community.
