Clwyd Alyn has admitted that its play provision at Oldford is past its sell-by date after a senior local representative conceded that “they have served their purpose”.
The issue has been a hot topic for Welshpool Town Council over the past year after Cllr Phil Pritchard voiced his concerns on behalf of the residents.
It led to Brendon McWhinnie, from Clwyd Alyn, meeting with the Operations & Development Committee to make the association’s position clear.
“I am the first to say they need to be improved,” he said. “They have served their purpose and we need to improve what’s there, but we need to work out how we get to that and working in partnership is probably the favourable way.”
Mr McWhinnie told councillors the housing association wants to work with the Town Council and Powys County Council to move the project forward, but that could be a long way off yet. He also hopes a community garden will be incorporated into future plans.
“I haven’t got a figure of what would be needed to improve the facilities so that would come after the consultation,” Mr McWhinnie added.
He is hosting an event this summer for residents to share their views and Cllr Kelly Meredith expressed a willingness to support.
“I represent Castle Ward which Oldford is on and a lot of residents do not have much trust or faith in the system, so I would like to work with you to change that,” she said.
Mr McWhinnie said he would be reporting back in more depth at the full council meeting later this month.
