Outrageous 100mph Welshpool police chase man sentenced

A man has been jailed for three years, suspended for 18 months, after failing to stop for police which led to a chase through roads near Welshpool at more than 100mph.

Stephen Price, 33, of Winsford, Cheshire, was sentenced for dangerous driving and driving without insurance after he failed to stop when instructed by police near thew town Welshpool in March.

The force said that officers had cause to stop Price’s vehicle, illuminated their blue lights and signalled for the vehicle to pull over into a layby.

After initially pulling over, the vehicle accelerated away and a pursuit was authorised.

Footage of the terrifying chase has been shared on the force’s Facebook page.

Dashcam footage shows Price repeatedly exceeding the speed limit - hitting 94mph in a 30mph zone - and crossing double white lines, overtaking dangerously before eventually abandoning his vehicle before running into a nearby field.

Throughout the pursuit, Price repeatedly braked heavily in front of the police vehicle, forcing officers to take evasive action to avoid a collision. Thankfully, no one was injured.

As well as his 36-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, he was ordered to undertake 250 hours of unpaid work and was disqualified from driving for a year.

PC Bufton of Powys’s Roads Policing Unit said: “No matter the reason, choosing not to stop for police and driving dangerously puts everyone at risk.

“The footage in the clip is shocking and shows the level of Price’s disrespect for other road users when he chose to drive in such an appalling way.

“I hope this example serves as a reminder to everyone of the importance of driving carefully and stopping for police when asked to do so.”
