No Omicron in Powys - yet

13/12/2021 @ 09:39

Powys is still Omicron-free, it was confirmed this morning, but a senior health boss said it is inevitable that the latest Covid-19 variant will make its way here.

Prior to the weekend, it was confirmed that 15 cases of the Omicron variant have been confirmed in Wales, and with cases also confirmed in Shropshire and Herefordshire, we are being prepared that a local case is “sadly inevitable” soon.

“Together with Public Health Wales colleagues we are closely monitoring the situation and this will continue in the coming weeks,” the senior Powys health official said.

Residents are being urged to carry out twice weekly lateral flow self-tests even if not displaying symptoms, with the new variant, although reportedly not as deadly, spreading faster than previous waves.

More information about Coronavirus testing in Powys is available from the Powys Teaching Health Board website at https://pthb.nhs.wales/find/ttp
