The local students who started their secondary school education during the Covid pandemic have picked up their results.
Both Welshpool High School and Ysgol Llanfyllin have praised their pupils, pointing out that many are now heading into their sixth forms which are in danger of closure in the future.
Here’s what the schools have reported this morning:
Welshpool High School
Well done to all our Year 11 students on another strong set of GCSE results this year. We are extremely proud of you all!
These results reflect the enormous hard work and commitment of our students. It was a pleasure to see them collecting their results today, and to appreciate the amazing young adults they have become during their time at the school.
We are delighted that many of the students will be returning to the school to study in the Sixth Form, and we also wish all of the students that are going onto study courses elsewhere every success in the future.
We would also like to thank parents and carers whose support has enabled our students to achieve so much. This, alongside the guidance and help from staff at the school, has given the young people within our community the best possible chances to fulfil their potential and succeed in their chosen career paths.
Everyone associated with the school would like to congratulate the students and wish them all the very best for the future.
There are of course many results at all levels that are so wonderful to see, and that our students should be rightly proud of, however the following high performance is something so amazing that we would like to share it publicly:
Anakah Biju 8A*/ 1B/ 1 Distinction
Jamie Bartley 6A*/ 5 A/ 1B/ 1 Distinction
Lucy Ward 6A*/4A/1B/1 Distinction

Ysgol Llanfyllin
Hot on the heels of last week’s superb A-Level results, Ysgol Llanfyllin is once again celebrating success – this time with another fantastic set of GCSE and vocational results.
Our students have achieved outcomes to be proud of, giving them an excellent platform for the next stage of their journey – whether that’s joining the school’s thriving Canolfan Chweched Sixth Form Centre, continuing to further education, apprenticeships, or entering the world of work.
This year’s cohort have impressed us not just with their results but with their determination, character and teamwork. They have shown that hard work and resilience pay off, and every single student deserves huge credit.
There were some outstanding individual performances this year, with many students achieving at least five A* and A grades or equivalent. Among the top achievers were:
• Marty Jones – 9A*, 1A, 1D*, 1D
• Chris Benson – 8A*, 3A, 1D*
• Fin Dixon – 7A*, 2A, 1D*, 1D
• Catrin Hopkins – 4A*, 9A
• Caleb Rees – 3A*, 7A, 2D*
• Ella Evans – 3A*, 3A, 2D*
• Amy Pierce – 2A*, 9A
• Tori Poyser – 3A*, 6A
We are also extremely proud that nearly all Year 11 students at Ysgol Llanfyllin achieved at least five A*-G grades or equivalent, a fantastic whole-school achievement that reflects their commitment and the dedication of our teaching and support staff.
Many of these pupils will now continue their studies with us at Canolfan Chweched, our outstanding Sixth Form Centre. Their return underlines just how vital it is to maintain strong, local sixth form provision here in Powys – something we highlighted after last week’s A Level results.
Headteacher, Dewi Owen, said: “We are immensely proud of this year’s GCSE students. Their results are not only a testament to their ability and effort, but also to the strong partnership between pupils, families, staff and governors. These young people have exciting futures ahead of them, and we can’t wait to see what they achieve next.”
