Blitz on blazing bikers

23/05/2013 @ 12:43

More than one in four bikers stopped during last weekend’s local clampdown on dangerous driving were reported for speeding.

A total of 33 motorbikes were stopped and nine were booked for excessive speed, while another was reported for overtaking on solid white lines. One bike was seized; three number plate offences were recorded; one biker had no tax, while another was reported for driving not in accordance with a licence.

The clampdown also resulted in two car drivers being arrested for drinking and driving and a further three drug detections.

“Officers have once again been targeting that minority of riders who don’t ride safely or within the law,” said Sergeant Ian Price. “Riders who come into our force area and use our roads can expect to see us out and about in the coming weeks and months carrying out similar operations.

“It should be encouraging to bikers that we do not discriminate against them as shown by a number of other motorists who have been dealt with positively. Often it’s the case that bikes come into conflict with cars through no fault of the bike rider.”
