Garthmyl Hall for sale at £1 million

11/06/2014 @ 06:16

Garthmyl Hall has gone on the market, but it will cost its new owner in the region of £1 million to buy it.

The property is a fine example of an Italianate country house with 10 bedrooms, a traditional walled garden, a range of domestic outbuildings, a courtyard to the rear of the property and stunning lawned gardens, grounds and woodland.

On the market with Welshpool agents Halls, the Garthmyl Hall site was originally occupied by a large timber-framed mansion built in the late 1600s. However, in 1762, it was replaced by the current house and in 1859 the house was substantially remodelled by noted architect James K. Colling for Major-General William Gould.

First listed in October, 1953, Garthmyl Hall boasts 8,385 square feet of comfortable period accommodation, including four generous reception rooms, a large kitchen and a useful number of ancillary domestic rooms, together with a fantastic wine cellar.

The first floor offers eight en-suite bedrooms with a feature master bedroom suite. There is also a useful two storey flat, with a bedroom and reception room, incorporated within the main house and ideal for a housekeeper.

Garthmyl Hall, which requires some roof repair, offers residential and commercial potential, having been used as an up market guest house in the past. Possibilities for future use, subject to planning consent, include a wedding venue, conference centre, boutique hotel, home for the elderly or out of town office location.
