An electrical fault in a fridge is believed to have caused Monday’s fire at Welshpool High School when fire fighters responded from three local stations.
Readers reported that smoke was seen coming from a room at the high school at around 9.30am, with fire fighters scrambled from Welshpool, Montgomery and Llanfair Caereinion.
The fire was contained quickly and emergency services left the building at around 3.30pm.
“At this stage, it is believed that the fire started from an electrical fault with a fridge in a Science prep room,” said head teacher, Jon Arnold.
“We are very grateful to the emergency services who quickly attended the site and put the fire out before it had a chance to spread further.
“There has been damage to the Science prep room, one Science classroom and the ceiling in the boys PE shower area. Work will be taking place over the next few weeks to have these areas ready for the start of term in September.”
