A 61-year-old Newtown man has been jailed for breaching the conditions of his Criminal Behaviour Order after making inappropriate sexual comments while drinking in public.
Alan Newton was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison after police officers on patrol found him drinking from a wine bottle and behaving inappropriately in Newtown on Sunday, 5 October.
Newton had been subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order following a series of alcohol-related incidents in the town. The order prohibited him from drinking or being drunk in public and from making inappropriate sexual comments or behaviour towards others.
Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing and Prevention Team arrested him at the scene. He was later charged and remanded in custody before pleading guilty to breaching the order.
In addition to the jail sentence, Newton’s Criminal Behaviour Order, which was due to expire at the end of October, has been extended for a further 12 months.
Sergeant Charlotte Jennings of Newtown’s Neighbourhood Policing and Prevention Team said: “We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour within our communities and we are committed to working with our partners to ensure we take a firm stance on this behaviour.”
