Over 60 local groups attend successful Funding Fair

26/10/2025 @ 09:21

More than 100 people representing over 60 community organisations and charities from across Montgomeryshire attended a Funding Fair in Newtown last week.

The event, held at The Monty Club on Friday, brought together a range of funding bodies to offer advice and information on securing grants for community projects, new initiatives and ongoing services.

Organised by Russell George MS, the free drop-in session was designed to help voluntary sector groups, charities and community associations find the right financial support to make their projects a reality.

Representatives from major funding organisations attended, including the National Lottery Community Fund, National Lottery Heritage Fund, Sport Wales, Arts Council of Wales, Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA), Hafren Dyfrdwy Community Fund, Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO), Powys County Council’s Sports Development Department, and the Welsh Parliament.

Mr George said: “The Funding Fair was a great opportunity for local charities and community groups to get face-to-face advice from major funding bodies. Many fantastic projects in Montgomeryshire struggle not for lack of ideas, but for lack of the right financial support at the right time. I hope the event helped bridge that gap by connecting organisations directly with those who can help.”

He added that a guide and contact list would be made available for anyone unable to attend. Community groups can request a copy by emailing russell.george@senedd.wales or calling 01686 610887.
