Residents in the Welshpool area are being asked to support the Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal and to wear their poppy with pride, as the town prepares for its Remembrance and Armistice Day commemorations.
The appeal, which runs through to November 11, enables the Legion to provide vital support year-round to serving and ex-serving armed forces personnel and their families - from welfare and recovery assistance to help with civilian life transitions.
As part of the campaign, Powys County Council’s Armed Forces Champion and Deputy Leader, Cllr Matthew Dorrance, said: “Wearing a poppy is a simple yet powerful act of remembrance and gratitude. I encourage everyone to support the Poppy Appeal and wear their poppy with pride.”
Communities in the Welshpool area will be holding events over the Remembrance Week and residents and organisations are encouraged to support the local appeal effort by pining a poppy, making a donation, or supporting any collection points around the town.
If your club, school or community group is organising a fundraising or remembrance event in the Welshpool area around this time, please let us know and we’ll include it in our listings.
