Huge rise in Welshpool rail users

Rail travel is becoming more popular among Welshpool travellers according to the latest statistics for usage.

Local rail user groups have shared official numbers for the amounts of passengers taking the train on the Cambrian Line which links Abersytwyth to Shrewsbury via Newtown and Welshpool.

During the latest one-year period, a whopping 176,730 passengers used Welshpool station, compared to 155,906 last year. That represents a healthy increase of 13.36%.

Elsewhere, Newtown enjoyed a 22.15% rise to 171,366 passengers, whilst one further stop down the line, Caersws, saw an incredible 40.70% increase in usage to 69,134 passengers.

Aberystwyth remains the busiest station on the line with 298,878 passengers recorded, a rise of 8.26%.
