Leighton CP School has officially opened its transformed library, described as a ‘calm, welcoming space designed to nurture pupils’ curiosity and strengthen the school’s commitment to fostering a love of reading’.
The refurbished area features soothing colours, comfortable seating and soft, ambient lighting, creating an inviting environment where children can relax, explore books and develop their confidence as readers.
The library will play a central role in the school’s literacy provision, hosting Welsh guided reading sessions and offering pupils weekly opportunities to choose and return books. This regular engagement aims to build positive reading habits and ensure every child has access to a rich variety of texts.
The opening was carried out by long‑standing friend of the school, Joan Spencer, whose continued generosity has made a meaningful impact on pupils across the Foundation Phase.
From donating books to exchanging heartfelt letters with the children, Joan’s support reflects the strong community spirit that underpins Leighton CP School’s ethos.
Headteacher and staff say the new library marks an exciting step forward in enhancing the school’s learning environment and strengthening its dedication to literacy, wellbeing and creativity.
“The space is already proving to be a cherished addition to school life, offering pupils a peaceful retreat where stories come alive,” a spokesperson said.
