Leighton CP School proudly celebrated the official opening of Y Ffau (The Den), its new outdoor learning centre, with pupils, families and members of the local community coming together to mark the occasion.

Officially opened by the Mayor of Welshpool, Cllr William Rowell, the celebration was also attended by representatives from the Conservation Trust, the Severn Rivers Trust and the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, reflecting the importance of outdoor learning and strong community partnerships.

Nestled within the school’s Forest School site, Y Ffau was named by one of the school’s own pupils, highlighting Leighton CP School’s commitment to ensuring every child has a voice.

The new learning space has been created to support the school’s enquiry-led curriculum, giving children opportunities to learn through exploration, investigation and first-hand experiences in the natural environment.

Whether discovering local wildlife, solving real-life problems or simply enjoying the outdoors, Y Ffau will provide a space where learning is meaningful, memorable and inspiring.

Acting Headteacher Lindsay Clarke said: “Y Ffau represents everything we believe in at Leighton CP School and thanks to a community grant we have been able to create this amazing place where children can ask questions, explore the world around them and develop a lifelong love of learning.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported this project and are excited to see generations of children grow, learn and thrive in this wonderful space.”
