Barker spurs in-form Montgomery

30/06/2021 @ 11:48

Opener, Andrew Barker, struck 75 to see Montgomery’s return to form in Henshalls Shropshire Cricket League Division Two continue with a dramatic six-run win over promotion-chasing St Georges.

With runs hard to come by, Barker’s innings propelled Monty through to 147-6, enabling Ed Bennett (3-14) and Sam Williams (3-30) to take control and dismiss the visitors for 141.

Craig Davies (3-20) and Ally Laird (3-5) combined to give Newtown a fine Division One victory at Beacon.

The pair tore through the middle order to reduce the hosts to 109 all out, enabling Ryan Davies (34) to lead the response and guide Newtown home in the 30th over with just five wickets lost.

Welshpool suffered a disappointing defeat despite dismissing Wheaton Ashton for just 127.

Wickets were shared around six bowlers as Welshpool put themselves in a strong position at tea, but despite Chris Proctor hitting 46 and Tom Bowen (31), the reply fell agonisingly short on 118.

Division Five leaders Guilsfield & Llandrinio were made to work hard for their 45-run victory at bottom side Knockin & Kinnerley.

David Williams (33), Steve Griffiths (34) and Dan Brown (30) put together steady knocks to see the visitors through to a respectable 198 from 40.

But the Knockin openers put together an excellent partnership before Williams (3-31) and Andy Pugh (also taking 3-31) went through the top and middle order to pave the way for victory.

Newtown II fell well short in their quest to reach Beacon II’s 175 all out, eventually ending on 131.

Llanidloes dominated their Division Six match with Montgomery II who were bowled out for just 29 thanks to the efforts of Eogan Jones (6-7) and William Denham (3-2), who went on to score 19 not out.

Welshpool II moved up to third in Division Seven with a low scoring win over Condover II who made just 61-6 from their 40 overs.

Callum Preston then made short work of the chase, hitting an unbeaten 39 to secure victory in the 13th over.
