Welshpool’s very own SuperDan

Welshpool swimmer Dan Jones has had an unbelievable weekend to remember, but the multiple Welsh champion faces an agonising wait to see if he will be accepted into the Team Wales squad for this summer’s Commonwealth Games.

The 25-year-old won an incredible four gold medals at the Welsh Championships in Swansea, not to mention a bronze in his ‘fun’ event of the 50m fly, but he missed out on automatic qualification to Birmingham 2022 by just one hundredth of a second!

He will now need to wait to see if his new personal best time of 49.02 seconds in the 100m freestyle, just a finger nail from the qualifying time of 49.01, will be accepted by the Welsh selectors.

He was also part of the victorious 4x200m relay team with his time good enough for Birmingham should Team Wales choose to compete in that discipline this summer.

Further victories came in the 50m freestyle and 4x100m relay to cap off a golden weekend for a swimmer hitting his prime.

Last night he said he was “looking forward to a couple of well-deserved days rest to recharge and go again”.
