Rain fails to save Pool, Monty

Rain may have been the overall winner on Saturday, but there was still plenty of action involving local teams in the MSG Shropshire League.

Newtown were bowled out for 180 at Bridgnorth II, before the match was abandoned at tea. Tom Anderson (43) and John Anthony (36) were the top scorers.

Montgomery were beaten by Lilleshall who had posted 199-9 from their rain reduced 25 overs in Division Two. Ed Bennett took 3-30.

The Monty reply was well short on 100-9 with skipper Aaron Ruff-Cock (33) top scoring.

Welshpool also managed to get their game played, but were beaten at Harpers in Division Three.

Pat Davies (41) and Tom Bowen (36) batted well as Pool chalked up a useful looking 175-9 from 30 overs, but the cavalier Harpers batsmen were up to the task and chased it down with four runs to spare and seven wickets down.

Guilsfield & Llandrinio returned from Division Four leaders Broseley with nine useful points after the match was abandoned just after tea.

The hosts got off to a rapid start before two wickets apiece for David Williams, Dave Jones and Dan Brown slowed them down to a reachable 163-7 from their 30 overs.

With Guilsfield standing at 2-1 from four overs, the showers returned and with the forecast poor, the captains shook hands and headed to the bar.

Llanidloes were left frustrated by the rain after posting 197-5 at Alberbury II from 30 overs. Will Denham (63), Rob Davies (58) and Eogan Jones (43) led the way before rain intervened early in the Alberbury reply with them at 20-2.

Montgomery II’s game at Quatt III was cancelled in Division Six, and Welshpool II’s Division Seven game against Quayside was abandoned with Pool on 280-6 thanks to a superb mid-order partnership between Pat Wilding (106no) and Dan Chodecki (92).
