Four young Welshpool and Newtown runners performed magnificently at the World Mountain Running Association U18 Cup in Saluzzo, Italy at the weekend.

Maldwyn Harriers runners made up half of the eight-member Wales team taking part, and they did us all proud.

In very hot conditions, Aled Breeze finished a brilliant 17th, while Maddie Griffiths came home 24th in the female race.

Teammates Finlay Cullen (39) and Callum Morgan (41) also finished well up the field which included some of the best young endurance runners in the world.

The team was managed by Maldwyn coach, Sharon Jones, who is team manager.

The race took place over 4.35km with 155m of ascent and descent and plays an important part in the development of young athletes, giving them the opportunity to represent their country in an international competition.
