Montgomery have moved up to second in Shropshire Division Two after dismantling Albrighton for just 90 runs.

Earlier, Monty were bowled out for 179, before their bowlers took centre stage, with Ed Bennett (3-13) and Aaron Ruff-Cock (3-28) forcing the Albrighton collapse.

Newtown slumped to a 54-run defeat at Shropshire Premier League leaders Ludlow.

The decision to field first looked a wise choice after Sam Baugh (4-31) and Nathan Smith  (3-26) combined to help restrict Ludlow to 196-9 from their 50 overs.

Marco Malan then knocked 60 in reply, and Ben Price (28) and Smith (23) also contributed, but Newtown wickets tumbled as they were eventually dismissed for 142.

A brilliant debut from pace bowler Nasir Uddin (4-36), who combined brilliantly with veteran Steve Griffiths (4-23) ensured that in-form Guilsfield & Llandrinio moved up to sixth in Division Three.

The pair combined to dismiss Church Aston for just 88 from 18.1 overs, before Uddin showed he can also bat with a composed 34 seeing the villagers through to a five-wicket win.

Welshpool slipped to a Division Three defeat at Church Stretton after being dismissed for just 133. Joshua Yates top scored with 32 not out.

Tom Bowen took three wickets as Welshpool made a fight of it, but the hosts crossed the line for a three-wicket win.

Llanidloes maintained their early season Division Four promotion push with a victory over Pontesbury who batted first for 196-8. Will Denham and Rob Davies took three wickets each.

Andrew Jones (72no) and Joe Pritchard (68) led the rapid run chase with support from Davies (32no) as victory was secured in the 30th over.

Newtown II suffered an agonising defeat at home to Frankton II despite being dismissed for just 129. Riley Bellamore (4-19) gave the hosts hope, but the visitors held out on the last wicket to win.

Montgomery II were handed victory in Division Five after Acton Reynold pulled out of their fixture, while Welshpool IIwere beaten at home after being dismissed for 124 chasing Willey II’s 209.

Rupert Shingler rolled back the years to take 4-7 to help Guilsfield & Llandrinio II make it two wins for the club for the first time this season.

His spell was a match winner at Chirk II, with the Guils only managing to post a first innings total of 119. Richard Lewis (39) again top scored.

With the match in the balance, Shingler ripped through the Chirk lower-order to whittle the hosts out for just 96 and move up to third in Division Seven.

On Sunday, captain Rhys Jones smashed a wonderful 134 not out to guide Newtown III to victory in Division Three.

His century steered Newtown through to 273-9 against Sentinel who could only manage 172 in reply. Jones took 3-12 and Freddie Roberts took 3-34 to ensure Newtown are top after three matches.

Llanidloes II suffered a seven-wicket defeat on the road at Bridgnorth III after being bowled out for just 85.
