Bowlers demolish visitors

David Laird (3-9) and Sam Baugh (3-4) led a superb Newtown bowling attack that demolished Allscott Heath to strengthen their Premier League position.

Played at Oswestry due to Newtown’s pitch undergoing early end of season work, the ‘hosts’ demolished the visitors for just 71 in 30 punishing overs.

The reply wasn’t straight forward with five wickets lost, but Laird finished unbeaten on 71 to secure the points.

Montgomery kept the pressure on the top two in Division Two with a convincing 116-run victory at Lilleshall.

Aaron Ruff-Cock (58no), Andrew Barker (42) and Tom Anderson (38) were amongst the runs as Monty posted 214-6 from 45 overs.

Ruff-Cock (3-12) then teamed up with Ed Bennett (3-42) to see off Lilleshall’s response for just 98.

Guilsfield & Llandrinio’s batsmen were in brilliant form as they virtually secured their Division Three survival with two games to go.

Sitting third-from-bottom ahead of Saturday’s game with second-to-bottom Church Stretton, a win was vital and it came with a strong batting reply after the visitors set 238-3.

Andy Flann (55) got them off to a decent start, but it was a 122-run fifth-wicket partnership between Gary Meredith (75) and David Williams (54) that guided the Guils towards a three-wicket win.

Welshpool’s first innings total of 168-9 wasn’t enough as Sentinel II secured a five-wicket win. Charlie Kinsey (37) top scored for Pool.

Jonathan Davies took a marvellous 8-20 as Newtown II powered their way to a 185-run victory at Bomere Heath II in Division Four.

Earlier Danny Foulkes (79), Mike Bellamore (58) and Evan Smout (31) propelled Newtown through to a winning position of 236-6.

Llanidloes had to share the spoils with Cound II who held out on 158-8 chasing Llani’s 185-8. Skipper Dan Lewis top scored with 47.

Welshpool II also drew with Forton II who finished on 147-8 chasing the hosts’ 210-4. Lance Parkes (80) and Mat Sherwood (52no) were in form for Pool.

Montgomery II managed to grab a share of the spoils at St George’s III who set a first innings total of 285 all out. Elwyn Turner (45), Gethin Serjeant (43no) and Craig Pearce (40) ensured Monty finished unbeaten on 175-8.

Paul Arkell (5-39) and rising star Alex Howard (3-14) bowled well as Guilsfield & Llandrinio II returned with the spoils from Albrighton II in Division Seven.

The pair combined to reduce their hosts to 152 all out just as a big score looked likely.

Rupert Shingler (35), Gary Griffiths (33) and Jinil Thilakan (36no) steered the Guils home in the 27th over with just three wickets lost.

All fixtures were washed out on Sunday.
