A night to remember a local darts legend

13/10/2025 @ 10:55

The inaugural Keith Gamble Trophy took place at The Grapes, Welshpool, marking a special evening dedicated to one of the town’s most respected darts players.

The event honoured Keith’s long-standing contribution to the sport and community, with the £650 raised going to the O’Connor Haematology Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, where he was treated shortly before his recent passing.

The fixture saw league champions Kings Head A & Friends face a League Select side captained by Gareth Ashley. Both teams produced a high standard of darts in front of a lively crowd, setting the perfect tone for what will become an annual occasion in the Welshpool & District Darts League calendar.

The match was played in excellent spirit and showcased the quality of darts across the Welshpool area. The League Select side took control in the later stages to secure an 8-4 victory, but the real success was the atmosphere and sense of respect shared by both teams.

Captains Darren Hyland and Gareth Ashley led their sides superbly, ensuring the evening reflected the sportsmanship, camaraderie, and passion that defined Keith’s involvement in the game.

The Welshpool & District Darts League would like to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated, bought raffle tickets, or contributed raffle prizes. The generosity shown by players, supporters, and local businesses was outstanding and helped make the evening a true community success.

Special thanks also go to The Grapes for hosting the event and to everyone who helped with the organisation, setup, and running of the night.
