Welshpool gearing up for major sporting event

12/01/2026 @ 02:14

March will see the rallying community flood into Welshpool for another memorable finale, as the Get Jerky Rally North Wales will return on Saturday, March 28.

The event provides the Welshpool area with an economic shot-in-the-arm with hundreds of competitors, crews and spectators flooding into the area to watch some of the best British drivers in action.

It has held its podium and finish ramp in the town centre before, and this year it will be based on the Seven Stars car park, with Welshpool Town Council inviting businesses to advertise by providing their banners ahead of the event.

“The idea is to have banners promoting local businesses around the outside of the car park,” a spokesperson said. “If you already have a banner (ideally 6ft x 2ft), then you are welcome to drop it off at Welshpool Town Council office, located in the Tourist Information Centre.”

Organisers will put the banners up and take them down so they must be dropped off by March 26. Only one banner per business permitted.

As one of the UK’s premier gravel rallies, the Get Jerky Rally North Wales will again be held in Welshpool, home of title sponsor Trailhead Fine Foods and its flagship brand, Get Jerky.

Organised by Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire Car Club (WSSCC), the 2026 rally will continue to build on the success of its new format introduced in recent years and will again by based in Welshpool Livestock Sales, with the finish and podium in the town centre.

The Get Jerky Rally North Wales, together with several other scheduled stage rallies, was cancelled last year due to access restrictions on land owned by Natural Resources Wales in the aftermath of Storm Darragh.

The rally will feature approximately 45 miles of competitive action across some of Wales’ most iconic gravel stages.
