Montgomery have launched a late season revival in a bid to save their Division One status following a superb run chase at Quatt II.
Ieuan Griffiths took 4-45 as Monty were set 238-9 to chase. And it was a magnificent 109 not out from Andrew Roscow that led the way, ably supported by Sam Williams (47), as Monty secured the points in the 47th over with four wickets to spare.
They still remain bottom of the league, but the victory has ensured that they keep in touch with the teams above them heading into the final quarter of the season.
Newtown are still rooted to the foot of the Premier League table following their seven-wicket defeat at home to title-chasing St Georges.
A 72-run fourth wicket stand between Ben Price (38) and Jordan Baijnath (34) gave Newtown some hope but their first innings total of 141 all out was never going to be enough.
Guilsfield & Llandrinio’s downturn in form continued for a third week after coming up five runs short as they threw away a winning position at Whitchurch II.
Dave Williams (3-42), Twinkle Jose (2-41) and Sajeeb Johnson Mable (2-36) did their bit with the ball as the Division Three second-placed villagers were set 213-9 to chase.
It was going to plan, with Nasir Uddin (85) and Williams (52) taking them to a strong position, but a collapse from 191-5 to 198-9 in the blink of an eye saw them end on 208.
This weekend they welcome Condover for a top-two clash.
Meanwhile, Welshpool remain in contention for the top two after picking up the lion’s share of points against bottom side Newport II.
Paul Chapman (34) top scored as Welshpool posted 193 all out before Dan Cadwallader and Rob Anderson took three wickets each to restrict the visitors to 181-9.
Newtown II created some breathing space at the top of Division Four after a vital victory at Harpers, and main rivals Llanidloes slipped up at Priorslee.
But it was done the hard way after Newtown II dismissed Harpers for 147 thanks to four wickets each for Finley Bellamore and Anu Kunjumon.
Following a collapse, Newtown II found themselves on the edge of an unlikely defeat, before skipper Jonathon Davies (20no) saw them home. Kunjumon top scored earlier with 36.
Rob Davies (65), Will Denham (50) and Rhys Jones (42) put Llanidloes in a strong position at Priorslee with a healthy first innings score of 236-6.
But the hosts had other ideas, reaching their target for the loss of seven wickets in the 39th over.
Welshpool II suffered an eight-wicket defeat at Knockin & Kinnerley after being dismissed for just 82 in Division Five.
But in Division Six, the father and son combination of Elwyn (77no) and Ben Turner (52no) carried Montgomery II to victory at Acton Reynald.
After being set a target of 154 all out, the pair put on a match-winning third-wicket partnership of 132 to guide Monty home in the 23rd over.
Guilsfield & Llandrinio II responded well to Whittington’s excellent first innings score of 253-5 to earn vital points and keep their Division Six survival bid alive.
Steve Griffiths (75no) and Jinil Thilakan (60) led with the bat as they finished on 207-6 for a losing draw share of the points.
On Sunday, Newtown III pulled off a thrilling victory in Division Three over Bridgnorth who fell just five runs short in their run chase.
Batting first, Nick Butler (77) and Riley Bellamore (57) set the tone as Newtown posted 250-7, proving to be enough, just.
Llanidloes II suffered a seven-wicket defeat at Madeley IV after failing to defend 171 in Division Four.
