The Welshpool area has a new option for expert osteopathic care with Paul Martin, a newly qualified osteopath with over 18 years of experience in physical therapies, launching his professional service in the town.
Paul, founder of Paul Martin Osteopaths, graduated with a First-Class Honours degree, achieving the highest final exam grade his college had seen in six years.
He began his professional journey with a Sports Science degree from the University of Bangor, specialising in Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, and Kinesiology. He went on to build a successful clinic is Shrewsbury, RESTORE, where he spent nearly two decades treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.
His return to formal education during the COVID-19 pandemic marked a pivotal step, allowing him to gain state recognition and further hone his skills.
Now fully qualified as an Allied Healthcare Professional, Paul is bringing a modern, evidence-based osteopathy service to Welshpool and Powys, with a strong emphasis on rehabilitation and functional exercise—something not typically associated with osteopathy.
Given the ongoing challenges in accessing GP appointments, this service can help fill a crucial gap. Patients may not realise that osteopaths can provide health screenings, blood pressure checks, cardiovascular and neurological examinations, electrotherapeutics as well as physical exams and diagnosis of common physical aches and pains - helping to support the community and relieve some pressure on local GP services.
His approach stands out for its integration of osteopathic principles and the science of functional movement. Drawing on his background in sports and exercise science, Paul formulates rehabilitation plans that are tailored to each patient’s daily needs - be they occupational, recreational, or related to ageing.
Influenced by the Gray Institute and functional exercise principles, his focus is on empowering patients through movement, education, and relevant real-world strategies - rather than relying on treatment bench-based passive treatments alone.
“I aim to complement existing health services by providing high-quality, research-backed osteopathic care,” Paul said. “I believe in a collaborative approach, working closely with patients to help them understand and overcome their issues. Treatment should happen on your own two feet - active, relevant, and empowering.”
Whether you’re recovering from a hip or knee replacement, managing the effects of osteoarthritis, dealing with persistent lower back pain, or simply aiming to stay active and mobile, Paul offers a tailored approach to help you achieve your goals.
His practice welcomes a diverse range of patients - from active older adults and recreational athletes to manual labourers and anyone looking to maintain or improve their movement, strength, and quality of life.
Originally from Shrewsbury, Paul has lived in Powys for the past 20 years. He and his partner - a medical scientist - enjoy a self-sufficient lifestyle in rural Mid Wales.
An avid mountain biker and lifelong outdoorsman, Paul also takes part in local field sports, bringing a grounded, practical perspective to his clinical work with the farming and rural community.
“What keeps me going is the sense that I’m only scratching the surface,” he added. “There’s always more to learn, more ways to improve, and more good to be done. This is a lifelong practice, and I’m excited to keep evolving it to better serve the community.”
Paul Martin Osteopaths offers expert treatment for back pain, joint discomfort, osteoarthritis, sports injuries, and post-surgical rehabilitation. Patients can expect a collaborative, person-centred experience that blends hands-on treatment with science-informed movement strategies with consideration of the individual’s broader health context.
