Six Welshpool athletes are taking fitness challenges to the next level after competing in the fast-growing Hyrox competition at the weekend.
Hyrox consists of 8x1km runs, each followed by eight stations (1km ski, 50m sled push, 50m sled pull, 80m burpee, 1km Row, 200m Farmers Carry, 100m lunges, 100 Wall balls).
The event was held at the Birmingham NEC and around 4,000 people entered, all split into age groups for male and female.
Representing Welshpool’s Rigorous Gym, Josh Greer completed the gruelling course in 1hr 11min (with a 3min time penalty); Warren Sinden (pictured), 1hr 20; Adam Richards, 1hr 23; Lynzee Kim Sinden (pictured), 1hr 23; Martins Uzilus; 1hr 28; Sam Lawrence, 1hr 45; and Josh Gresty, 1hr 52min.
“They have all been training with me at the gym for a while in the BigRig group sessions which are suited to the style of the competition,” said Warren. “They've been getting in extra sessions on Saturday mornings more specific to the competition setup.
“The most amazing thing about the race day, was the community to it all. Anyone you chatted to has a story of inspiration and everyone is so friendly and supportive.”
