Men’s Walking Group to make Welshpool return

09/01/2024 @ 09:27

A group that has been successful in supporting men through personal challenges has announced a welcome return to Welshpool.

The Walking Men of Mid Wales was created around the Covid pandemic to support the area’s men through tough times with regular walks offering the chance to get together and talk.

It enjoyed several walks in Welshpool two years ago, but has mainly centred around fortnightly walks in Newtown.

But last night, organiser Andrew Coppin announced its Welshpool return this month with the support from a local business.

“We are starting a new walk in Welshpool on January 23 at 7pm,” said Andrew. “Corey in the Inglenook cafe has offered us the chance to meet up at 6.30pm each fortnight before we start so please spread the word.

“For any gent struggling in life for whatever reason, then let's discuss it in a safe non-judgemental environment. It could be the best decision you ever make.”

Men’s mental health is a subject that is sadly overlooked, but the pandemic highlighted the issues being faced by many, with Andrew starting the group after losing a close friend to suicide.

In its Facebook group introduction, the group is described as meeting “always in a safe place to talk to one another in a friendly manner and environment to offer support to one another during times of anxiety, stress, sadness or even loneliness”.
