Student film makers providing a warm welcome

A group of talented Year 7 pupils at Ysgol Llanfyllin have launched their own production company, ‘Sianel Saith Llanfyllin’, and produced a short film aimed at helping new pupils prepare for life at the school.

The project inspired huge interest, with 45 pupils applying to take part. Fourteen were ultimately selected after pitching their creative ideas to form the production team.

Their brief was to make an informative and entertaining film for pupils joining Ysgol Llanfyllin in September 2025 – and the finished piece premiered to a packed hall of parents and prospective pupils during the school’s recent Open Evening.

Headteacher Mr Dewi Owen said: “This has been a brilliant opportunity for our pupils to develop their creativity, confidence, and teamwork.

“They’ve produced something truly impressive - and who knows, perhaps one of them will follow in the footsteps of former pupil Lol Crawley, who won an Oscar last year for his work on The Brutalist.”

The young filmmakers are already discussing ideas for their next project – and it’s clear that Ysgol Llanfyllin’s creative legacy is in very safe hands.
