Air Ambulance base petition flies past 10,000 signatures

The fight to keep Welshpool’s Air Ambulance base functioning is far from over, after a petition to block its closure flew past 10,000 signatures this week.

The charity’s wish to close Welshpool and Caernarfon bases in favour of one new base in north east Wales was backed by a, sometimes, farcical public engagement process.

But the campaign goes on with a legal challenge in the pipeline, and in the meantime the strength of local feeling has been proven once again with the landmark reached.

The petition “demands a full public enquiry into the closure of Welsh Air Ambulance bases in mid and North Wales” and it will now be eligible for the Welsh Government’s Petitions Committee to consider for a debate after passing the 10,000-mark.

One of the campaign leaders, Cynthia Duce, updated: “What have the campaign team been doing for the last few weeks? Well we have all been busy quietly working away in the background like little beavers and things are moving forward nicely.

“Can we ask as a campaign team that you continue your wonderful support which you have all been doing for the past 22 months?”
