Welshpool Town Council has announced a series of updates to this year’s Remembrance commemorations, restoring the traditional parade format and strengthening coordination with veterans and community groups.
The changes follow a well-attended public meeting held on September 25, when around 30 veterans, local group leaders and residents shared their views on how the events could best honour those who served.
The feedback has been adopted by the Council’s Events & Planning Committee and will be reflected in this year’s arrangements.
Key changes include:
Remembrance Services in Welshpool
Friday, November 7 – Schools’ Service at Memorial Gardens (2pm – 2.30pm)
As part of Welshpool’s Remembrance commemorations, Welshpool Town Council, working with the Royal British Legion (Welshpool Branch), will hold a short ceremony at the Memorial Gardens, Howell Drive.
The service will begin at 2pm and is expected to finish at approximately 2.30pm, allowing local school pupils to take part and pay their respects.
Sunday, November 9 – Remembrance Parade and Church Service
The main Remembrance Parade and Service will take place with participants and groups asked to meet at the Park Lane entrance from 10.15am to form up for the parade.
The parade will set off at approximately 10.35am, marching to St Mary’s Church to arrive and be seated for the service by 10.50am.
Following the church service, the parade will reform outside the Inglenook Café and return to the Assembly Room, Welshpool Town Hall, where refreshments will be served for all taking part.
Tuesday, November 11 – Armistice Day Silence (11am)
A Two-Minute Silence will be observed outside the Town Hall at 11am, followed by the reciting of the Exhortation and Kohima Epitaph.
All members of the public are warmly invited to attend and join in the act of remembrance.
