The world’s richest man is set to spend some of his half-a-trillion-dollar fortune on Welshpool, if plans are given the green light.
Elon Musk’s Tesla company has applied to install an Electrical Vehicle Supercharging Facility, along with access and all associated works, at Tan Y Rhallt, Buttington Roundabout, next to the Costa Coffee that is already taking shape.
The application, which goes before Welshpool Town Council’s Events & Planning Committee this Wednesday evening, includes 12 EV charging stalls and a substation.
Welshpool Town Council don’t have the final say on planning applications, but their decision and comments are supposed to be taken on board by Powys County Council who make the decision.
Previously, the town council made its stance clear that it doesn’t support out-of-town commercial developments and has opposed the KFC, Costa Coffee and Starbucks developments which have gone ahead regardless.
Their opposition is based on a policy that they would prefer to see investment made inside the town centre area.
