Reigning champion Gary Jones has launched his Welshpool Premier Summer Darts League campaign with two flawless performances at the weekend.
Jones got underway with a pair of 4-0 victories over Mitch Butler and Rob Shingler, hitting an impressive 85.89 three-dart average in the process.
Welsh international Steve Price also got off to a flying start, posting an 85.89 average and two 4-0 victories over Martin Rees and last year’s top eight qualifier Jamie Cater.
Salopian A’s Kacey Jones recorded a 4-1 victory over Dave Rix, posting the highest average of the night of 88.31.
Newcomer Ewan Jones grabbed two wins from two to put him in the top half of the early table, and grabbed the highest checkout of the night with a 120.
Fellow newcomer Jamie Kynaston picked up a hard-earned draw against Dan Hosiene, and a big win against Welshpool singles champion Gareth Ashley, who picked up his first win of the season against Neil Ashley. Shingler picked up a vital win against Jordan Harding.
Dan Morgan, Rhys Butler, Martin Rees, Haydn Jones and Cam Williams all picked up draws in their respective matches.
There were 11 opening night 180s and six ton-plus checkouts on the night, which bodes well for an excellent summer of darts ahead.
